01 · Check the official record
Look up a plumber or gas fitter in WA
Building and Energy provides an online search to check whether a plumber or gas fitter is licensed. Open the WA Government’s search page and choose the online search to reach the register.[1][2]
- Open the WA Government licence search page or go directly to the WA Online Licence Search.
- Search by licence number if you have it. The plumbers licensing guidance also describes searching by licence type and then a name or location.[3]
- Check the result in the official register. If you cannot identify the right record or interpret its status, contact Building and Energy for direction rather than relying on this guide to decide.
A search result is the regulator’s record at the time you view it. RuleRivet does not access or verify an individual record here, and this guide cannot confirm a person’s current licence status.[1][2]
02 · Plumber licence renewal
Renew a plumbing licence through the Plumbers Licensing Board
The WA renewal page says a plumber’s licence must be renewed from 12 weeks before expiry until up to 28 days after expiry. Courtesy reminders are sent by email, so keep your department contact details current and track the expiry date yourself.[4]
- Find your licence number on your card or through the WA Licence Search.
- For online renewal, prepare the licence number, a mobile number or email on file, a police check dated within the past three months, the fitness and propriety form, an acceptable licence-card photo, and a Visa or Mastercard for payment.[4]
- Open the official renewal page and follow its current online instructions. For post or in-person renewal, use the Plumber licence/permit renewal Form 111 and follow the submission details on that page.[4]
03 · Gasfitting permit renewal
Renew a gasfitting permit before it expires
The WA Government says a gasfitting permit can be renewed up to 90 days before its expiry date and no later than 30 days after expiry. Its renewal instructions say the online process needs your permit number and the mobile number or email held by the department; access uses a one-time code sent by SMS or email.[6][7]
- Use the permit number shown on your identification card.
- Start at the official renewal page and follow the online renewal system. If you apply by post or in person, use Gasfitting Permit Renewal Application Form R004; the form contains submission details.[6]
- Do not rely on reminder messages as proof that a renewal is complete. The department says the permit holder is responsible for holding a current permit while performing regulated work.[6]
04 · If the expiry date has passed
Check the correct reissue pathway for your licence type
For plumber licences, the WA page says that if expiry was more than 28 days ago, you can apply to have the licence reissued. It lists separate reissue forms for plumbing contractors and tradespersons. The same page gives the exact requirements and submission route; check with Licensing Services if your licence type is not covered by those instructions.[5]
For gasfitting permits, the WA page says a permit expired over 30 days and up to two years may be eligible for reissue using Form R126. It does not establish the route for a permit expired longer than two years; contact Licensing Services for instructions for that case.[7]
The gas permit renewal page lists Licensing Services on 1300 489 099 for application questions.[6]
